Navin Kumar establishes Smart Energy Solutions with a mission to bring affordable solar power to rural and semi-urban Bihar.
First 10 MW Milestone
Reached 10 MW of installed capacity across Bihar, with our first large commercial rooftop contracts and an expanding dealer network.
Patna Office & National Expansion
Opened our state capital office at Exhibition Road, Patna, and began extending operations to Jharkhand, UP, and West Bengal.
Franchise Network Launched
Launched the Smart Energy franchise programme, enrolling 80 partners in its first year and establishing a new model for distributed solar delivery.
500 MW Installed & Growing
Today, Smart Energy operates across 14 states with 180+ franchise partners, 500 MW+ installed capacity, and an ambitious roadmap toward 1 GW by 2027.

Smart Energy Solutions was born out of a simple but powerful observation: the communities that needed affordable power most were being served last. In 2014, Navin Kumar — an entrepreneur from Bihar with deep roots in the state's financial ecosystem — saw an opportunity to bridge that gap.
Starting with residential rooftop projects in Samastipur and the surrounding districts, the company built its reputation on one thing: keeping every promise on every project. Word spread. Customers became advocates. Small contracts grew into large commercial and industrial projects.
The company's registered office at Tata Commercial, Tajpur Road, Dharampur remains its heart — the place where everything began. The Patna office at Exhibition Road serves as the operational hub for state-level projects and government tenders.
In 2022, recognising that the fastest way to bring solar to every corner of India was to empower local entrepreneurs, Smart Energy launched its franchise programme. Today, over 180 partners across 14 states carry the Smart Energy brand into markets we could never have reached alone.

Meet the man behind
the mission
Navin Kumar is a serial entrepreneur whose career has been defined by one consistent theme: building institutions that serve the underserved. Born and raised in Bihar, he understood early that the state's economic potential was constrained not by the ambition of its people, but by the infrastructure around them.
Before founding Smart Energy Solutions in 2014, Navin built deep expertise in financial services — experience that now shapes how the company structures affordable solar financing for its customers and franchise partners alike. He is also the founder of NKFS Finvision (nkfsindia.com), a financial advisory firm that complements the solar business by enabling customers to access the capital they need to go solar.
His philosophy is rooted in ground-level execution: "The most important solar project is the next one," he says. Under his leadership, Smart Energy has grown from a small Samastipur team to a pan-India network while maintaining the same personal accountability and quality standards that marked the first installation.

Navin leads both Smart Energy Solutions (solar EPC) and NKFS Finvision (financial advisory), creating a unique ecosystem where customers receive end-to-end support from project financing to installation.
